Winter Around the World

Winter is one of the most beautiful seasons around the world. Gently falling snow, majestic snow-capped mountains, frosted trees, the ground covered in fluffy mounds of sugar-white perfection: these are the sights of winter. All around the world, there are endless examples of almost magical winter scenes.

The Northern Lights

Although you can see the breathtaking Aurora Borealis from other northern locations, Alaska is the most prominent location to view the world famous northern lights. Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival

This annual festival in Japan features an enormous ice-covered cave and is home to a large celebration of ice sculptures. As part of the festival, the ice sculptures and cave are illuminated by colorful lights. Paired with a fireworks show, this ice festival makes for a beautiful winter scene.

Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic

Cesky Krumlov is a very old town that surrounds a castle in the Czech Republic. It was built in the 13th century and stands to this day. In the winter, the town is dusted in snow, giving the old-world town an other-worldly feel.

This French-influenced city still has a lot of its old architecture. Especially along the streets of the Old Montreal Quarter, the snow-filled streets and sugar-dusted architecture are absolutely gorgeous.
